Metrohm 663 VA stand

The VA Stand forms the wet chemical part of a polarographic and voltammetric system that can be controlled by an Autolab potentiostat, using the IME663 interface.

Control functions in the autolab software are: purge on/off, new drop, stirrer on/off. The drop size and the stirrer speed are controlled manually from the VA stand.

The 663 VA Stand is equipped with and Ag/AgCl reference and a glassy carbon counter electrodes. The available modes are: DME, HMDE and SMDE. Optionally the system can be equipped with a rotating disk electrode operating at rotation speeds of 0, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 rpm. The disk electrodes have a diameter of 2±0.1 mm.

Some technical specifications:

  • Glass capillary: 0.05 mm i.d.
  • Drop sizes: 0.25, 0.40 and 0.52 mm2
  • Mercury storage: 6 ml, sufficient for approx. 200 000 mercury drops.

AUTOLAB Rotating Disk Electrode

The AUTOLAB Rotating Disk Electrode (RDE) can be used in combination with GPES and FRA software for measurements on systems where mass transport is important. The system comprises of a mechanical unit and a motor control unit.

The mechanical unit has a PCTFE electrode shaft on which easily exchangeable tips of different materials can be mounted. The tip diameter is 10 mm, with the diameter of the active surface being 3 mm. The tips are available in the following materials: Au, glassy carbon, Ag and Pt.

The high performance motor can go up to rotation speeds of 10 000 rpm, and a liquid Hg contact is very suitable for low noise measurements. The electrode shaft has been designed to fit Metrohm cell vessels, available in volume ranges from 1 to 200 ml.

The rotation speed of the RDE is controlled by the motor control unit. The rotation speed can be controlled manually with the button on the front panel. The RDE can also be controlled remotely with the GPES or the FRA software by connecting it to an available DAC channel of the AUTOLAB. The rotation speed can be varied continuously between 100 rpm and 10 000 rpm with a resolution of 1 rpm both in the manual as well as the remote control mode.

Metrohm electrodes

Disk electrodes with outer diameter of 10 mm and electrode disk diameter of 3 mm. Available in Au, Ag, Pt and glassy carbon.

Disk electrodes with micrometer dimensions

Disk ultramicroelectrodes (Ag, Au, Pt, Pd, Ir), diameters ranging from 10 to 500 µm, require Metrohm electrode holder 6.1241.020 (other sizes on request)

EasyCon electrodes

Easy-Constructed electrodes.

Corrosion cell

The corrosion cell is used to measure the corrosion properties of flat circular metal samples of 14 mm diameter and 12 mm thickness in a test solution. The exposed surface area of the sample is 0.785 cm2.

It consists of a glass container with a thermostatic jacket and a cell top with four joints for one reference, two counter electrodes and a thermometer. A gas in-/outlet is also available.

The PVDF sample holder is mounted in the glass cell and is sealed leak-tight by a Viton O-ring. The reference electrode is positioned close to the sample by using a Luggin capillary.

Flat cell

The flat cell is used to measure the corrosion properties of large flat metal samples in a test solutions. Basically it consists of a glass vessel and a holder made of PVC.

The holder allows quick exchange of the test samples. The exposed surface area of the sample is 16.9 cm2. The glass vessel is tightened upon the sample using a Viton O-ring and three wing nuts. The cover of the cell is made of PVDF and allows the positioning of a counter and reference electrodes and a gas in-/outlet.

The flat cell package contains a large area stainless steel counter electrode and a standard Ag/AgCl reference electrode. The tip of the reference electrode is positioned just above the surface of the sample.

The sample size must be between 55 and 85 mm diameter, and the maximum thickness is 5 mm.

MAXTEK EQCM

Autolab HT RotaHull

The Hull cell is a commonly used device in the control and maintenance of plating bath solutions. A disadvantage of the classical Hull cell is the absence of controlled mass transport conditions, which is an important part of many plating processes, like alloy plating, plating in the presence of organic additives and high speed plating.

In the HT RotaHull a rotating cylinder is being used as a cathode. The tests can thus be performed under controlled hydrodynamic conditions, so it is possible to determine the influence of increased or decreased mass-transport, and thus the influence of bath components at low concentrations.

The cell consists of a rotating cylinder electrode with a counter electrode placed at one end. Between the cylinder and the counter electrode, there is an insulating separator which diameter determines the current distribution. The separator is open at the bottom and all the current will flow through this open space. The current density on the surface of the cylinder will thus be highest at the bottom and will decrease going upwards.

Specifications:

  • Active cylinder surface: 0,15 dm2
  • Maximum cell current: 10 A
  • Maximum current density on the cylinder: 66.7 A/dm2 (625 ASF)
  • Internal current supply: 0.2 - 5 A
  • Rotation speed: 20 - 600 rpm

The Autolab HT Rotahull system is delivered with a driving unit with electrode holder, current supply and control unit, connector cable, mask, electrolyte container, Stainless Steel and platinized Ti-anode, electrode end-pieces (3), 100 cylinder brass electrodes and rule.
